Bought a crib
I had picked out the Simplicity Chelsea 4 in 1 Convertible Sleep System – Honey Finish from the Babies “R” Us website. It was only available online, but at 169.99 it was cheaper than anything in the store. It was still very nice looking in the pictures, so even though we wouldn’t be able to see it in person prior to purchasing Kurt and I decided to get it. After adding it to the “shopping cart” I see the estimated shipping and handling…$210.81! For a grand total of $380.80 (tax not included at this point). We switched gears and figured for that price we might as well buy something that we could see in person first. We made a trip to the Babies “R” Us brick and mortar store – very nice but damn they’re expensive. On Saturday went all the way to Ikea to see what they might have – good price, cheap ass quality. On Sunday I started searching seattle.craigslist.org just for giggles. I noticed that a bunch of the ads mentioned that their little one had chewed on the crib and I figured that must be pretty common. Maybe getting a 4 in 1 and expecting it to actually be in good enough condition that a ten year-old Sophia will never have to explain the teeth marks on her headboard to her friends might be asking a bit too much. We decided that since the first bed was going to be filled with spilled bottles of formula, explosive diarrhea and projectile vomit we may as well get a used crib. The crib we finally chose was only used by one other child and he apparently liked to chew on one side. Aside from the chew marks and me spending an hour disinfecting and otherwise removing spilled formula it’s very nice. It’s a cherry sleigh crib. Purchased with the mattress and some fitted sheets for only $125.

From what I’ve been told, especially in the “children” department it’s always better to purchased used…good idea!

Used baby stuff is the way to go. They grow so fast and before you know it Sophia will be in a toddler bed and running around jumping in bed with you and Kurt. That crib will be lost to the recesses of the attic before you know it.
…that is till the next baby (God forbid Darth) is on the way!

Ya, our crib was “free” but Cole did so much work to it to make sure it was sturdy and worthy of our child, that it cost about $100. The previous owner had painted even the rubber teething rails, so we sandblasted it and bought new rubber rails. Now the railing is off and he jumps in it with no problems. Even Cole can hang out there without worry. Used is good if you are handy and can fix it to your own standards.
