Linus Complex

Every morning after Sophia gets her second diaper (yes, second diaper, not first) changed she scoots over to her crib (it’s a small room, she doesn’t have far to go) and reaches through the bars for ‘friend’ if she can’t reach him (can a pink blanket be a ‘him’?) she’ll get upset and I toss the blanket to her. She will then pop her thumb in her mouth and flop forward onto ‘friend’ as if she’s praying to Mecca. No, she doesn’t face the same direction every time, and I have no idea which direction would be the appropriate one to face in my house. Anyway, it’s hilarious and I have pictures for you my pretties. This morning she took it a bit further and drug the blanket with her to the next room. She’s getting extremely attached to ‘friend’ and she won’t nap without him. I wash ‘friend’ each time she recovers from a cold or stomach flu and it’s hard to time it so that he’s clean and dry for her nap or bedtime. I can see her ‘friend’ looking very much like Kurtie’s old ‘friend’ very soon. Would it be appropriate to name a girl Linus?

The female Linus

She’s laying on her side in this shot. It was the best “Mecca” pose I got. Usually she’s totally flopped forward with her face buried in her blanket.

  1. Love it :) I think Sophia knows how cute she is. It looks like Bailey watches cutie and sighs with relief when his frenemy is gone.

Chloe’s friend is a soft and nubby Winnie the Pooh rattle (Classic Pooh, natch). The first night in her crib (@10 months, a long story) she howled and sobbed uncontrollably for a whole hour. Hen went in and talked gently to her and rubbed her tum and back and then gave her a bear friend to protect and watch over her when daddy couldn’t be there. She took it in her hands, sniffled, and went right to sleep. Ever since then she can be seen on her video monitor with one hand holding on tight.

Lately when she wakes up she crowns herself with it (like we do with her round bracelet like teether that she doesn’t teethe on -why bother, scraping your teeth on humans is much more satisfying) and giggles happily to herself Princess Chloe. These are the moments I want to hold onto when she is a teenager and telling me she hates me and to go f*#k myself. *sigh*

  2. Chloe’s daddy here. Just wanted to say I love the cat watching “linus” crawl away and the near paw slap. I also thought it was cute when the other boy hit her and she made a pouty face. I would love to see the malamute too :) Also, thanks, because once Sue found your blog she dragged me to BRUs and we got all of our Dr. Browns exchanged for free for BPA ones. Wait, did I just thank someone for causing me to get dragged to BRUs…again…

  3. Susan Anderson – Sophia and Bailey have an odd relationship. He hates her but I swear there was a time that he purposely got her attention to keep her away from the stairs. I didn’t have the gate up and even though I was watching I wasn’t *right there* . I heard Bailey meow and saw him walk very closely to her to get her to turn around. I swear he did it on purpose, like he knows he’s the older ‘sibling’ and he has to watch out for her cause if she gets hurt it’ll be his fault somehow. I donno.

hehe Pooh friend that so cute ;-)

I thing teethers are like the Pet Rock. Everyone has to go get one, but it’s totally useless. I don’t think I know anyone whose baby actually used a teether.

  4. Chloe’s Daddy – Thanks for the comment ;-) I have a post about Petie (the malamute) up. It’s the 55 Flash Fiction Friday post. It’s just a picture of his face and his happy puppy eyes. Oh and you know she would have dragged you to BRUs for one reason or another anyway. ;P It’s an awesome store to hang out in – it’s an EXPENSIVE store to hang out in. ;-)

  5. yep she soooooo got the “friend” gene from kurt! looking at the pix on here, i can say, even tho she doesn’t chew friend, her friend will not look good soon. on that note, who are we to chose the “friends” that our kids pick? kurt had friend and i had 2, a pillow that i called (peo) and berry my stuffed bear. by the way, i still have both altho i am 41 lol. you just can’t throw old “friends” out like that. right kurt???
