Diaper Champ disappearing act

No, she’s not making the diaper champ itself disappear, but she has come dangerously close to making things other than diapers disappear in the diaper champ. Sophia has an odd need that is either to keep things tidy or to organize, I’m not sure which yet, but she loves to put stuff into buckets, filing cabinets, other toys, and kitchen drawers that aren’t baby proofed yet. At least I’ve narrowed down the places to look for our TV remote.

A couple weeks ago I caught her putting things into the hole of the diaper champ. I don’t think she knows that when the lever is flipped over that things disappear FOREVER, cause I ain’t digging into all them diapers to find her missing hair clippie, but she started to flip the lever to the other side after placing things in the hole. I pulled the stuff out before she flipped it. Things like her nasal aspirator.

We can’t get the child to drink from a sippy cup to save her life anymore, but she’ll suck on that damn nasal aspirator all day. I’ve even taken her to the post office with her clinging to it. Not that I care but people must feel bad for her thinking I’m too cheap to buy her ‘real’ toys. She loves the damn thing. It’s her favorite color even.

My daughter slept with a rolled up 8 X 11 orange piece of paper for several months instead of a special stuffed animal or blanket. She called it “Bob” after the store where she got it. Kids are so wierd!

LOL, mine always liked to put things into the toilet. Car keys, remote, toy cars, cheerios.

The nasal aspirator isn’t so bad, most moms understand. My littlest one can;t go anywhere without food in his hand People either think we starve hm and he won;t give up that cracker, or he has a tapeworm. :)

I was about to point out that it was her favorite colour, ’til you ended with that! *chuckle* At least she’s consistent.

I remember seeing misc items in the bag as I took it out of the champ too. I think there was one time that the item was important so I broke a hole in the bag right were it was to get it out. No digging required. Justin is also at the putting things in stage. To my advantage, I have him put things in my hand… the remote, the tiny piece of plastic, etc. Enjoy each stage because she will grow out of wanting to put things away, just about the time you want her to start cleaning up her own junk.

I’ve yet to meet a kid that didn’t have more fun with the box than the toy in at least one case. And the hiding things game? Nothing new there either. I learned to hang my car keys up on the hook after the first time my eldest “put them away” for me. He also sent me off to a training exercise at Ft. Irwin with a few leggos in my spare pair of boots. Guess he thought I’d get bored out there in the desert (he was right).

Haha! That’s so funny–I can just picture her sucking on a nasal aspirator…babies are gross, aren’t they? And why do they never play with toys, and always real objects? I found our remote in his toy box yesterday…

I cannot for the life of me get Alex to drink from his sippy cup. Well, he drinks from it fine when I hold it, but he wont do it himself. Or he can’t, I’m not sure. He holds it up and just sucks away, but never tilts it. Weirdo.

Tried the sippy cup again today with her morning milk. Figured, hey, she’s hungry so she’ll drink it right? Wrong. Said Sippy cup was thrown at mommy, the dog, and the sofa with excessive amounts of howling. I gave in and put it in a bottle and she sucked it right down. Damn pediatrician and their “she must give up the bottle by 15 months” rule. We’ve tried five different kinds with no success. *sigh*

Jamie Simmerman – We keep the lid down at our house, and because she likes to open cupboard doors and play with the wastebasket we keep the bathroom door closed as well – double protected there! ;-) I’d hate to have to fish things out of the toilet! I guess I’m lucky there, for now.

Sarah – Sophia puts things in my hand too. As a matter a fact she’ll even grab my hand and turn it palm up in order to give me things that she promptly takes back. She’s so funny. ;-) I know it goes fast and I’m afraid of forgetting it all, that’s why I blog. ;-)

Susan Anderson – I haven’t heard the 15 month rule on bottles. *fret* Why 15 months? Have you tried just giving her the sippy cup to play with? Just a thought. Or remove the flap that regulates the flow to just one direction and feed her like it’s a bottle. Or just turn her loose with it like that, but make sure you don’t mind whatever liquid getting allover.

How does she like the soap?

We’ve tried everything *sob* I don’t mind if she drips all over, we have pets so I’ve given up on having perfect carpets. She just refuses. Gerber, Nuby, Playtex, etc, all for nought. She does like carrying it around when the pressure is off. As for the 15 month rule, my pediatricians are just Nazi’s in disguise hell bent on making any enjoyable Chloe moment into “homework”. I could go on and tell you about their demand for forced tummy time when she was two months old, but I’ll save stories of a baby crying for a half hour straight for another time :)
On a lighter note she walked across the room yesterday! I don’t think she knows what she did or she would be running all over and away from her parents if she could (or after the poor dog). Take that sippy cup.
She loves her soap, but I think mommy likes it more ;)

Susan Anderson – Sorry it’s taken me so long to comment on this. I meant to comment a while ago and then forgot what post it was on.

Our pediatrician just gives us a hand out from a website he subscribes to. I forgot the url, but it’s a paid subscription site. It gives some guidelines like at the two-month check up it said something like, “If you’re breastfeeding now would be a good time to start pumping milk so that others may feed the baby and give you a break.” – That wasn’t really exact wording, but that’s the sort of gentle reminders/hints that we get. No pressure. My only pressure is other people asking, “So is she talking yet? How about now?” Well, actually I do feel some pressure when the nurse goes through her list of milestones and I feel like I’m saying, “No, not yet” to almost everything. But her answer is, well that will happen soon. I guess Sophia lands in the middle, so all is well.

I’m glad she likes her soap and Yay! for walking across the room ;-)
