Yay me!

fisher price cash registerYesterday I was showing Sophia how her Fisher Price cash register works, not that I haven’t shown her a few times already, but this time she was more interested.  I turned the handle on the side which rings a bell, opens the cash drawer, and then closed it.  She immediately took it over and did the same.  “Yay!” I said and clapped my hands.  She smiled and then for the first time she clapped her hands, not that she’s never smacked her hands together or hit the palms of our hands or tables repeatedly, but she was clapping her own hands and in response to achieving something.  The whole day every time she made one of her toys do something she clapped her hands for herself.  Of course, if she clapped too much or too exuberantly, she became coy and would tilt her head to her shoulder, turn her head away, and stop clapping.

Kurt said that she had made the cash register work earlier in the day, but this was the first time I had seen her connect that her turning the lever opened the drawer.  I think before that she thought they were separate occurrences without any relationship.

  1. It’s so cool to watch them connect the dots. I remember being amazed when my little sister would figure something out, I can’t imagine how cool it is when it’s your own kid.

    Yay, Sophia!
