I wasn't very close but I had a good lens and zoomed into the picture in Photoshop to focus on the tiny bird. I didn't hear him at all because the branch he was working on is a tiny willow tree so I wasn't completely sure what kind of bird I captured until I looked him up on the Internet. We used to hae one here one year but it's gone now. The noise that it made was somewhat annoying but I enjoyed having a woodpecker because it's so rare seeing one.
