War of the Worlds unfolded in living rooms around the country. In Concrete Washington, right as the Martians invaded with flashes of light and poison gases, all the radios died. Panic ensued. Some fainted and others fled to guard their moonshine stills. One man even stole gas to see his priest for a last-minute absolution.

Oh my gosh, having been to Concrete, I can so picture that happening! Actually, I can picture it happening in any number of small Arkansas towns, too. Rural, isolated places are so susceptible to panic. And other things. *shifty eyes*

I’d be the one that guards the moonshine I think. Well, on 2nd thought I’d probably be like the dude in the movie “Signs” where he’s watching TV in a closet wearing the aluminum foil hat!!!!!
