Baby Squeezins: Diaper of the Month

I’m late, I know. I’m sorry for any undue stress my tardiness may have caused. The little human petree dish gave Kurt and I some sort of mid-evil not-a-flu that hit us so hard that even Kurt called in sick. Our little darlin’ is such a giver. *eye flutter and dreamy-like smile* Speaking of giving, here is this month’s donation to the Baby Squeezins Diaper of the Month. Brought to you by the color green and taken on June 6th (that’s 6/6/08) with my awesome Nikon D60.

This is the reason I STILL cannot figure out why it’s necessary to wipe girls front to back. You see my finger at the bottom of the picture – that’s the front of the diaper.

Daily Infant Report

Monday, June 23rd, “Hi there! Sophia is very strong! She pulled up on the shelves today! She scooted a lot today. She wouldn’t stay at one place. She slowly would move to different places to reach objects.”

Yep, that’s my little Butt Scootin’ Baby. I’ve actually seen her do it a few times now. She stays in a sitting position with one leg kicking her off like she was on a skateboard and the other still in front of her. She has a left leg preference for pushing off.

Tuesday, June 24th, “Hi there! Sophia had a great day! She was very curious about *name of other child*’s hair. She was touching his curls and making little funny screams.

Wednesday, June 25th – Kurt picked up Sophia at 12:30. Kurtie went home sick. We were both sick the next day and I didn’t feel up to caring for the human petree dish so we sent her to daycare.

Thursday, June 26th, “Hi there! I can’t believe today is Sophia’s last day! It was a wonderful time getting to know her. She is a very sweet girly girl! Today all the time I put her to sleep she would stand up in the crib and smile to everyone.”

Yep, you read right. Sophia’s last day of daycare was Thursday. My last day of work was Wednesday. I’m now a stay at home mom.

From June 12th, “Hi there! Sophia had a good day. I put her to try to walk with the walker toy and she can walk slowly with it! She also sat in the bike and *name of boy* was pushing the bike with Sophia riding.”

(It’s not really a bike – it’s a push toy that’s barely shaped like a motorcycle, BARELY)

June 16th, “Hi there! Sophia had a very good day! She is very comfortable and she loves to play with *name of boy*! Today they were having fun with musical instruments.”

She came home with the art project they did last week.

June 17th, “Hi there! Sophia had a good day! She is eating better and when she wants me to hold her she put her arms wide open and shake them looking at me! She is so cute!”

She was finally her smiling and giggly self for the first time since Tuesday June 3rd. Two weeks to the day!

June 18th, “Hi there! Sophia had a great day. She loves to play with the chewing toys. I can see her second tooth cutting off already. A couple weeks ago I could only feel them. She can stay standing up by herself for a couple seconds!”

Actually being able to feel her teeth was three weeks ago, but who’s counting? :P And she’s been able to stand on her own for a while now.

June 19th, “Hi there! Sophia had an ok day. She loves to walk around the classroom with help. We read lots of books today and she smiled a lot to me when I was acting with the story.”

Sophia puked right before Kurt picked her up today. I didn’t think anything of it since he said is was due to her coughing, but I put her to bed at seven and she woke up drenched in her own vomit. I didn’t hear any coughing. I think she might be sick, AGAIN!

Butt Scooting Baby

My baby scoots her butt on the floor like a dog! Actually, I haven’t seen her do it. All I know is that on Friday, I was at my computer and I put her on the floor at one end of the room with the boppy pillow behind her. Not that she really needs it, but just in case she decides to flop backwards, it’s there. The next thing I knew she has moved from that end of the room, over there. *points away from herself as if you can see* And she was sitting right next to me looking up with her big green eyes as if to say, “Momma I’m hungry.” I know she’s not crawling. She does sleep on her side or tummy from time to time and will occasionally be sitting up in her crib when I come to get her. I know she could physically crawl, but she’s not quite there yet. She’s butt scootin’ and I know it.

She’s like People

Today I took Kurt out to an Indian restaurant for Father’s day dinner. The child, our darling bouncing baby girl who, for the longest time wouldn’t drink from a bottle or a tippy cup, and still refuses to do so with me, insisted on drinking from the water glass at the table. She kept reaching for the glass repeatedly. Finally, Kurt pick up the glass and brought it towards her and she actually leaned in to try to drink from it, so Kurt put the glass up to her mouth and then she bit it. I could hear her try to chew the glass with her one tooth clanking against it. It was like fingernails on a chalkboard for me, but that didn’t stop her. She took several sips, most of which landed in Kurt’s lap. She also took two bites from the Kabuli Nan – we made sure there weren’t any raisins that would cause her to choke.

I was supposed to be eating while Kurt entertained the child that was tired of sitting in the designated grimy germ infested baby chair, but I was so taken by her suddenly being all-adult like that I just watched like an idiot. As if she wasn’t ever going to evolve from a crying shitting blob to an interactive little person that eats real people food.

Summer Safety – Swimmers Giveaway

A few months ago when I was looking for a local pool with an infant swim class I came across the Infant Swimming Resource. The the video on their website just amazed me. They teach infants as young as six months old to be able to roll from stomach to back in the water fully clothed! They’ve had a lot of news coverage including a King5 news story from November 2007 from my local area (link no longer available). They don’t hide the fact that the babies are going to cry.

Her little-known program focuses on a child’s ability to self-rescue. Through repetition, instructors teach infants to roll on their backs and float – eventually calling out for help. Success requires resolve. Class is five days a week and there are lots of tears.

“Crying is their primary means of communication,” Patterson said.

Even though Sami seems decidedly unhappy, his parents say he’s making clear progress.

“You just want to have him as prepared as possible, so you’re willing to live with having him cry – he cries all the time anyway, so it’s okay,” said Marwan Dalle, Sami’s father.

Patterson says, because the training utilizes gross motor skills, the lessons are lasting.

“They’re going to retain it, the way they’re going to retain the ability to crawl or walk,” she said.

I know I couldn’t sit through the tears, but I think this class is a great idea. If I had a pool or water front property I think I would find a way to power through a class like that for Sophia, but since I don’t, I’ll settle for gently getting her comfortable in the water and watching her like a hawk!

I love the water and regardless of whether or not you choose to go through a self-rescue class with your infant or toddler I think it’s important to get them comfortable in the water for future swimming classes. The ability to swim is a great skill to have, so in the spirit of water safety I’m hosting a Huggies Little Swimmers Giveaway!

I am giving away TWO Huggies Little Swimmers fun in the sun kits*. Each kit includes a pack of Huggies Little Swimmers disposable swim diapers (I have one pack size medium and one pack size large), Moisturizing sunscreen lotion (SPF 50), Mild sunscreen clear mist (SPF 50), Sun sensors (stickers that monitor UVB exposure by changing color), 4-ounce bottle of bubbles, a little bucket for playing in the sand, and a mini sand farming implement (rake or shovel).

“Hi there! It’s very good to see Sophia again. She had an okay day. She didn’t drink much of the bottle at 12:00. She made a beautiful art project for father’s day.”

It’s nice that she’s doing better and made it through daycare. Although they sent her home looing like Pebbles.

I snapped a picture of her with me sneer too…that\'s my sneer baby
No, wait. It’s better than that. THIS is MY sneer…That\'s my sneer girl

She is almost over her cold. It just doesn’t sound like it. She has a terrible cough that keeps her up at night. Keeps me up too. :( I write this while wondering if there really are any benefits to milk baths. Yep, I got another one. My little faithful fountain blew again. She coughs so hard after eating sometimes that she erupts. She’s so miserable. I want my smiling, giggling little baby back.

Robeez and Flowers

Today I received two things in the mail. One was a new pair of Robeez shoes for Sophia.
two pairs of Robeez shoes that Sophia outgrew
The monkey and sunflower Robeez shoes are the ones she outgrew. Her sunflower shoes were her main pair. They match just about everything. The monkey shoes I couldn’t resist cause they’re just so damn cute. The peace shoes, which are HUGE on her are the new ones. I got them cause they aren’t pink and the blue is very close to her favorite Peep blue color and the orange in the middle is my favorite color.

The other thing I got in the mail today is a “convertible wristlet” which is a small clutch/handbag. It’s also called a Zippy Zipper Wristlet by Simple Sweet Cakes, the Etsy Shop from which I purchased my wristlet. It’s awesome! I love it. I’m not a purse person, but I didn’t want to carry stuff in my pockets through the summer. I like to go without a jacket on the hotter days and it’s uncomfortable to carry a cellphone in my jeans. This is the perfect small not-a-purse answer for me. I can wrap the strap around the stroller or fish it through my pant loops like a hip pack. I had mine custom made with an exterior zipper pocket for change and two interior pockets to separate my cellphone and business/store cards from the rest of the junk in my not-a-purse. The fabric I chose is called Turquoise Fleur. I thought it might be a little loud for me, but it’s not. I love it. It reminds me of tiles one might find in a Spanish kitchen. And the colors, Peep blue and Orange :)

Yes, that is a nasal aspirator keeping it propped up. No, I don’t keep it in my not-a-purse, but as of lately I probably should!
