Tonight we were watching the three hour end of season special for Lost and Sophia was kicking around. I rolled the elastic off my belly and told Kurt to watch. She kicked and he saw – that was a definite kick! Kurt put his hand on my belly and finally got to *feel* his first kick.
Today we were playing City of Heroes and Sophia was kicking up a storm. She was kicking with more force than usual so I rolled the elastic down on my pants to see if the kicks were actually hard enough to see on the outside of my tummy and they are! It looks like a tiny muscle spasm but you can see it! I showed Kurt but when I asked him if he saw it – he wasn’t quite sure of what he was seeing.
Yesterday I finally managed to get Kurt to come to the baby store to check things out now that we know it’s a girl. I had a semi gender neutral snoopy themed decor picked out prior to knowing and asked him if he still wanted to stick with that. I pointed at a theme that I liked and he said he had his eye on that one too – The name of it is “sugar plum”. – my big strong man
I had my first ultrasound appointment yesterday and I called my parents immediately after, well after we went out to eat. This morning I sent out an email to everyone with pictures of the ultrasound.
One friend said:
Woo hoo a girl! I really like her name too, it’s so pretty. I always get a little chuckle though when one of our big bad male friends has a daughter! It always feels so just.
My reply:
Actually Kurt seemed a little relieved that it’s a girl. He has some strange idea that in order to be a good dad to a boy you’ve gotta play sports with him and Kurt isn’t into any sports. I kept telling him that a boy will mostly likely be attached to whatever sport/activity dad likes, which in Kurt’s case would be everything motorcycle.
He’s already talking about a dirt bike for little Sophia.
Kurt’s mother said:
I have never seen an ultrasound before. I am surprised at how clear it is. She is BEAUTIFUL! But what the hell happened to Darth Jorgen?
My reply:
You should see the 3-D ultra sound pics they have out now. One of my co-workers got those and they’re kinda creepy. You actually see the face and they give it a flesh tone.
Oh and about Darth – Apparently Sophia won out during the great sperm war of January 2007.
That’s right Sophia – if you had been a boy there was a chance your name would have been Darth as in Darth Vader. Kurt even said once, “I hope he has asthma” – so that you would sound just like Darth. The other name he wanted was Erik, after his brother. My objection to that one was that it would seem like you were named after me, and Eric with a “k” just isn’t right.
Today, Mother’s day, I’m at the exact halfway point. I’ve been pregnant for four months and nineteen days and have four months and nineteen days to go – that’s if you’re going by the way that doctor’s measure pregnancy which begins on the first day of the last menstrual period and if the baby actually comes out on October first. Otherwise this entire post in null and void.
When I made my doctor appointment for today I asked if this would be the ultrasound appointment where I get to know the gender. “Oh we don’t do that here” she said, “They’ll have to give you a referral.” Damn it! Apparently they don’t have the ultrasound equipment there at their office. Kurt and I went to the appointment this afternoon…I now weigh 147 pounds!!!
The first baby kicks were pretty tiny but now they don’t feel like “kicks” at all. It’s more like I have a live fish swimming around in me.
Ok this morning I know it was baby kicks I was feeling. I felt kicking for about thirty minutes around five in the morning.
I think I felt the baby kick. It felt like a cross between a muscle spasm and literally having a butterfly in my stomach.
A friend emailed to see how I was doing. I told her the morning sickness / nausea is over and I’m not as sleepy as I was before. I don’t even feel pregnant except that I’m hungry all the time and I’ve gained 13 pounds.
Her reply:
Oh my God!! For some reason I wasn’t thinking you are going to gain weight.
I want to see you with you weight onI am glad your morning sickness is over. That is the worst part of being pregnant.
